Pay Per Actual View (PPAV) Streaming

As the name implies, the PPAV service is designed to allow the viewer to watch a program for whatever length they wish to watch and only pay for what they watched. Most of the content producers are reluctant to provide download of their files onto the customer’s computer for concerns about piracy. Therefore, most video files are streamed to the users where the content file resides on a server and the user is only receiving a stream of data. One of the key features of streaming is that it does not provide the VCR functions. The customer can not select a file and fast forward it to the point where they wish to watch. The file runs from the start to the end in real time.

The PPAV system encodes the video files into segments. The segments can be of any duration. Viewer can decide at which segment of the file they wish to start and when they wish to stop. The counter displays the amount of time they have been watching. The system is designed to offer various options for charges, ranging from pay-per-minute to pay-per-segment or pay-per data transfer etc.
